Peeling Apples

We bought a 40 pound box of apples last Wednesday when we ordered our food at the farmers market. Carolyn and I decided that we would make apple pie filling with them. Carolyn made 7 quart jars and it took her all day to do it with Little John's help. Ben, Carolyn, Little John and I worked tonight to peel and cut the apples so that we can spend tomorrow making pie filling.

GEO CACHING
SUNDAY APRIL 19, 2009

Today was a beautiful day. Nice and warm, so we decided to go geo caching. We found 3 out of the 4 caches we went looking for. Little John was great fun and wanted to spend all the time looking for bugs. Carolyn and John were on a roll and found all the caches. I was too busy playing with Little John to notice chat we were doing. All of the caches were nano's and were a bit challenging to find.

While we were out finding caches, we stopped to stopped to show Little John the train that was parked on the tracks.

BABY ANIMALS WITH JOHN AND LITTLE JOHN
APRIL 18, 2009
John was feeling bad that he did not get to go to baby animals days at the Jensen Historical Farm, so John, LIttle John, and I went over to see the animals. We have a great time until we got to the lambs. There was a mother sheep that was in the pen with her lamb. She was upset that all of the people were there and kept baaing loudly. Little John was walking along and stopped to look at the lamb and her mom. The sheep came up to the fence and baaed several times at Little John, scaring him to death and causing him to cry. After that, we did not have quite as good a time. Little John did like the baby ducks, but he cried when he held a bunny. He did have a great time riding the horses and playing with an old rusty wheel that we found in the grass.

BABY ANIMAL DAYS
APRIL 11, 2009
Carolyn, Little John and I went to Baby Animal Days at the Jensen Historic Farm in Wellsville. It was great. Little John loved the animals, expecially riding on the horses. He was not really excited about wearing a helmet. While he was riding, we could not tell if he was having fun or not, but when Carolyn lifted him down from the horse, he had a fit and cried when he could not get back on.

Finishing the Deck

John spent the weekend making the railing for the deck. It looks so great! I can't believe it has taken us 4 years to finish the deck. He is going to build hand railings to go down the stairs as soon as we get some more wood. I can't believe how great the backyard looks. The peas are coming up. There are little green shoots sticking above the dirt. It is so nice to see this sign of spring. The grass seed is growing and starting to fill in all of the holes we have had. Carolyn planted blueberries, but I think she planted to early because they have frozen. We put up a wall of water around them and hope that will help them come back. We are going to move them over by the deck where they will have some wind protection. We have the carrots and lettuce planted, but haven't seen anything coming up yet.

April Fools again?

John has been parking across the street at the school along with Ben. On April 2nd, John had slept in late and drove Carolyn's car to work. When he got home, Carolyn needed him to run to the store. He decided to take his work car because it gets better gas millage. When John got into his car, he noticed that the windshield had been broken. It looks like a golf ball or a rock hit his window and broke it. This has been a hard week for our family with our cars. The police came again. They still don't hold our any hope on finding who did it. John is now trying to find a place to replace the windshield for cheep.

April Fools

Ben had quite an April Fools joke played on him on Tuesday night. Sometime during the night someone broke into his car and went through his things. When they couldn't find anything of value in his car, they vandalized the front by spray painting pictures on the hood and window of his car. It was a real shock to get up the next morning and see the mess his car was in. I had to wonder how he knew nothing was stolen when his car looks like a homeless person lives in it. It is a huge mess, but he seems to know where everything is. We reported the incident to the police, but they don't hold any hope of finding the person.

A Sunday Walk

Carolyn, Little John, Ben, the dog and I went for a walk this afternoon. It is cold outside, but I was tired of being in the house. Ben took along his trusty wheelchair. I have decided that there is nothing funner than watching Ben go for a walk in his wheelchair. He has so much fun doing spins and racing the dog. As we were walking down the road to the church, we passed a gentleman walking his dog while two other dogs tagged along. There were so cute, a little black schnauzer and a white rolly polly dog. As we passed them by, the dogs decided to join us on our walk. We decided that since we were already on our way to the church that we would walk the dogs home. The rolly polly dog belonged to Laurie Merrill and the black schnauzer belonged to the house just across the street from her. Since we were already such a long way from home, we just kept going and walked the whole loop around the block. It was a great walk!

Grandma Again!

Heather called tonight to say that she and Evan had made it safely to Ogden to where they are staying for the weekend with his aunt. They have tickets to go to a monster truck show for Valentine's Day. Carolyn is going down to meet with her tomorrow to start measuring her for her wedding dress. While we were talking, she just happened to mention that the reason she had called was to let me know that I was going to be a grandma again. She and Evan are expecting! The due date is August 17th. They are thinking that they need to move the wedding date up a bit. When I asked her if they had thought of a new date yet, she said that they were leaning toward June or July of this year or Spring of next year. I think it will be sooner. I am excited to start making baby blankets again.
