Peeling Apples

We bought a 40 pound box of apples last Wednesday when we ordered our food at the farmers market. Carolyn and I decided that we would make apple pie filling with them. Carolyn made 7 quart jars and it took her all day to do it with Little John's help. Ben, Carolyn, Little John and I worked tonight to peel and cut the apples so that we can spend tomorrow making pie filling.

GEO CACHING
SUNDAY APRIL 19, 2009

Today was a beautiful day. Nice and warm, so we decided to go geo caching. We found 3 out of the 4 caches we went looking for. Little John was great fun and wanted to spend all the time looking for bugs. Carolyn and John were on a roll and found all the caches. I was too busy playing with Little John to notice chat we were doing. All of the caches were nano's and were a bit challenging to find.

While we were out finding caches, we stopped to stopped to show Little John the train that was parked on the tracks.

BABY ANIMALS WITH JOHN AND LITTLE JOHN
APRIL 18, 2009
John was feeling bad that he did not get to go to baby animals days at the Jensen Historical Farm, so John, LIttle John, and I went over to see the animals. We have a great time until we got to the lambs. There was a mother sheep that was in the pen with her lamb. She was upset that all of the people were there and kept baaing loudly. Little John was walking along and stopped to look at the lamb and her mom. The sheep came up to the fence and baaed several times at Little John, scaring him to death and causing him to cry. After that, we did not have quite as good a time. Little John did like the baby ducks, but he cried when he held a bunny. He did have a great time riding the horses and playing with an old rusty wheel that we found in the grass.

BABY ANIMAL DAYS
APRIL 11, 2009
Carolyn, Little John and I went to Baby Animal Days at the Jensen Historic Farm in Wellsville. It was great. Little John loved the animals, expecially riding on the horses. He was not really excited about wearing a helmet. While he was riding, we could not tell if he was having fun or not, but when Carolyn lifted him down from the horse, he had a fit and cried when he could not get back on.

Finishing the Deck

John spent the weekend making the railing for the deck. It looks so great! I can't believe it has taken us 4 years to finish the deck. He is going to build hand railings to go down the stairs as soon as we get some more wood. I can't believe how great the backyard looks. The peas are coming up. There are little green shoots sticking above the dirt. It is so nice to see this sign of spring. The grass seed is growing and starting to fill in all of the holes we have had. Carolyn planted blueberries, but I think she planted to early because they have frozen. We put up a wall of water around them and hope that will help them come back. We are going to move them over by the deck where they will have some wind protection. We have the carrots and lettuce planted, but haven't seen anything coming up yet.
